Project Summary
The project was to re-create print based packaging to test the reactions of supermarket shoppers with twists to their everyday products. The idea consists around altering consumer experiences and the curiosity that follows estranged products that appear familiar at first glance.

Final Submission

After a rocky start to getting a project approved I have worked flat out. Over the last five weeks I have produced a range of 16 altered packages that have hopefully helped change the way we see familiar objects from now on. I designed a supermarket brand, which I have applied to a promotional leaflet and a hand made re-usable bag. Over the five weeks I have worked non-stop I have hopefully produced a reasonable quantity of work for my late start on the project.
I spent the first 2 to 3 weeks working solidly on my products, which I think I have skilfully altered with very little alteration to the original design. I have then spent the last weeks creating the promotional leaflet, bag and printed multiples of my products. I was able to photography my altered products in a supermarket after several mishaps. I was pleased with the high level of production of my products as it meant that they looked realistic on the shelves and photographed the same as the other products around them. If I hadn’t been given a short time span in which to take photo’s of my sixteen items I would have liked to have had more shots of the products together like on a conveyor belt in a basket and a shot of my re-usable bag full, in situation.
Overall I think my project has been very successful in the time taken and I feel it has given me a broader understanding into the world of packaging and consumerism as well as the organizational skills needed when orchestrating a project with several outcomes.

DISASTER
For some unknown reason NO ONE knew I was coming tonight.
I was have not been allowed to take photo's.
I'm not blaming it on my stupidity but I should have asked for a written response. I am going to have to wait till the morning now and contact the store that said yes to me.

Testing Logo 2
Confirmation
On Wednesday I sent off 6 letters to various Tesco's and Asda's in my home town and near my London house. Yesterday I had a no from a London Asda store. They understandably didn't want to upset there suppliers.
However I have just received Confirmation from a Tesco's allowing me to take photo's in there store. I will be travelling home on tuesday and taking the photo's at midnight at the tesco as it is a 24 hour store and there will hopefully be less people around.

Testing Logo

The colour match isn't amazing - I colour matched with the grid below before I ironed it onto the fabric and i now know that the colours changes once it is heated.

Another test which I need to do now is using different paper. I have used "Dark T-shirt transfers" I need to try "Light T-shirt transfers" and see if i achieve a better effect.

Todays Activites .2
After Visiting the printers - I have managed to get all my prints looking great. The colouration is almost perfect considering I am going from Pantone colours to RGB / CMYK. The only problem I have it that there slightly too dark which i will fix for Monday.

I have now also updated my Loyd Grossman labels and they are now ready to print.
Tomorrow I have to finish my Baxters soup and Cif spray
Sunday I plan to start on my spoof supermarket logo so that it is completed before I start printing my boxes on Monday.

Todays Activites
I have updated my Beans tin can see below.
The reason for making the label fit on a full size tin is because for hand in i will be handing in one on all of my hollow boxes. This includes jars and tins and the only hollow tins i could get my hands on where full size tins.
Next activity for today - getting small test prints of nearly all my labels done to check colouration.

Todays Activites
Today has been an absolute shambles.
My so called printers has to be the worst printer every. His software was so old that it couldn't complete my prints. When he finally got one to print the areas where photshop meets illustrator there where differences in the colour. After test printing it at home on my ink yet i have had no such problems. Tomorrow I am visiting hobs to get small test prints completed to see if i have the same problem. If i do i will have to re design my items.

Meeting With Geoff
Today a small group of us had a meeting with Geoff about many areas of our projects.
Areas Covered:
Areas Covered:
- Changing two products that were not juxtaposed correctly. Products concerned - Baxster Soup + Cif Spray
- Printing - There was an initial worry of cost to get my products printed on material that would give same feel of packaging. After visiting 3 big companies (Pronto Print, Hobs and Orange) I found that the only way they would be prepared to help was to have every item die cut and varnished as to achieve the right effect. However a helpful man in Hobs told me about a small printers in holborn.
- The small printers can print my packages on a laser printer using suitable paper as to achieve an almost untouchable difference. The Cost will also only be around £150 for multiple copies of my 16 designs. ( I may design 2 more packages as the cost is reasonable)
- Another item we covered was the idea of my Spoof leaflet advertising products on special offers and hopefully a bag for life with the Spoof Supermarket name and slogan printed on the side.
- I will be able to complete the leaflet once I have my boxes printed cut and glued.
- The bag for life is a much harder item. I had looked into getting it professionally printed but with a mimume order of £300 I have decide to create it all myself. I will now have to experiment with iron-on prints and screenprinting as an alternative (assuming more expensive and less choice of colours). I will also need to have around 5 bags made. ( probably by myself as the designs are simple)
