Photo's for Hand in Box

After printing two sample's or my hand in box I prefer the boarded image as I think it is easier on the eye. And I do not think it directly looks like a Polaroid photo as that is not the effect I want.

Supermarket Photo's

Hand In Box x2

The Box Created Using Metallic Paper (left) is far more appealing.

Hand In Box 2- Finished

This box was created using Metallic Paper- The foiling is slightly more successful and the shine adds to the whole effect.

Hand In Box- Finished

With set of prints I put the foil and paper through a laminator and achieved a much better effect. The foil still hasn't perfectly transferred but it has been my best result to date.

Here is the original illustrator design for the box before I had to simplify the colours as to allow me to foil the surface.
Here is the original Lindt Box.

Success

After last nights disaster and a word with my grand parents local supermarket I have taken my photo's of my products on the shelves.

Here are a few screen shots of the some of the photo's.

DISASTER

For some unknown reason NO ONE knew I was coming tonight.

I was have not been allowed to take photo's.

I'm not blaming it on my stupidity but I should have asked for a written response. I am going to have to wait till the morning now and contact the store that said yes to me.

Foiling Hand in Box

This is my first test at foiling a large area. I still haven't perfected the skill and there is lots of black ink showing through. I will try it again on shinier paper and hopefully lay the foil down better before hand.

Foil Test

This is my first attempt of foiling that has worked

Transfer Testing

I'm finding it hit and miss to achieve the right texture - As there are to options, Gloss finish or a Matt finish but the instructions don't seem to work at stated.

Testing Logo 2

This time I have used " Light T-shirt Transfer" and the white paper goes clear. In the light around the image it is still slightly shiny. This is defiantly my best attempt so far. However I am concerned that the overall effect is just too tacky.

Confirmation

On Wednesday I sent off 6 letters to various Tesco's and Asda's in my home town and near my London house. Yesterday I had a no from a London Asda store. They understandably didn't want to upset there suppliers.

However I have just received Confirmation from a Tesco's allowing me to take photo's in there store. I will be travelling home on tuesday and taking the photo's at midnight at the tesco as it is a 24 hour store and there will hopefully be less people around.

Testing Logo

The colour match isn't amazing - I colour matched with the grid below before I ironed it onto the fabric and i now know that the colours changes once it is heated.

Here is the colour chart and a hue wheel with different black settings. I will need a achieve a stronger red for my iron material.

Another test which I need to do now is using different paper. I have used "Dark T-shirt transfers" I need to try "Light T-shirt transfers" and see if i achieve a better effect.

Logo Designs

At the moment it looks like the development of the logo over the years. As I need to give an automatic comfort factor I'm unsure which one best fits the criteria of a supermarket logo. I'm also aware that i haven't used a bright colour as large supermarkets use now.

Todays Activites .2

After Visiting the printers - I have managed to get all my prints looking great. The colouration is almost perfect considering I am going from Pantone colours to RGB / CMYK. The only problem I have it that there slightly too dark which i will fix for Monday.

I have now also updated my Loyd Grossman labels and they are now ready to print.
Tomorrow I have to finish my Baxters soup and Cif spray

Sunday I plan to start on my spoof supermarket logo so that it is completed before I start printing my boxes on Monday.

Todays Activites

I have updated my Beans tin can see below.

The reason for making the label fit on a full size tin is because for hand in i will be handing in one on all of my hollow boxes. This includes jars and tins and the only hollow tins i could get my hands on where full size tins.

Next activity for today - getting small test prints of nearly all my labels done to check colouration.

Todays Activites

Today has been an absolute shambles.

My so called printers has to be the worst printer every. His software was so old that it couldn't complete my prints. When he finally got one to print the areas where photshop meets illustrator there where differences in the colour. After test printing it at home on my ink yet i have had no such problems. Tomorrow I am visiting hobs to get small test prints completed to see if i have the same problem. If i do i will have to re design my items.

Meeting With Geoff

Today a small group of us had a meeting with Geoff about many areas of our projects.

Areas Covered:
  • Changing two products that were not juxtaposed correctly. Products concerned - Baxster Soup + Cif Spray
  • Printing - There was an initial worry of cost to get my products printed on material that would give same feel of packaging. After visiting 3 big companies (Pronto Print, Hobs and Orange) I found that the only way they would be prepared to help was to have every item die cut and varnished as to achieve the right effect. However a helpful man in Hobs told me about a small printers in holborn.
  • The small printers can print my packages on a laser printer using suitable paper as to achieve an almost untouchable difference. The Cost will also only be around £150 for multiple copies of my 16 designs. ( I may design 2 more packages as the cost is reasonable)
  • Another item we covered was the idea of my Spoof leaflet advertising products on special offers and hopefully a bag for life with the Spoof Supermarket name and slogan printed on the side.
  • I will be able to complete the leaflet once I have my boxes printed cut and glued.
  • The bag for life is a much harder item. I had looked into getting it professionally printed but with a mimume order of £300 I have decide to create it all myself. I will now have to experiment with iron-on prints and screenprinting as an alternative (assuming more expensive and less choice of colours). I will also need to have around 5 bags made. ( probably by myself as the designs are simple)
